X20 – X35 electric forklift trucks

The best of both worlds
The X35 electric forklift truck from Linde Material Handling in operation

Forklift trucks have to work under extreme conditions, such as constant lifting and lowering, transporting goods over uneven surfaces, dirt and dust and temperature fluctuations. Due to their durability and performance, it was only ever internal combustion trucks that were deemed fit for the job, as electric forklifts simply could not offer sufficient performance – until now. With its new X20 – X35 electric forklift trucks, Linde has cast this limitation aside and made it possible – for the first time ever – for electric forklifts to be used in applications that used to rely upon the use of IC trucks.

The new electric forklift trucks are based on one shared platform for Linde’s whole new generation of counterbalanced forklift trucks. They combine the best of both worlds, offering the dynamics, flexibility, and zero emissions of a Linde electric forklift truck, together with the durability, performance characteristics, and power that until now was only available with IC trucks with hydrostatic drive. The key to this performance is a new motor generation and the new truck concept, which has been developed from scratch.

The X20 – X35 electric forklift trucks from Linde Material Handling are part of a platform that is compatible with all types of drive

Trucks for every customer requirement

The X20 – X35 electric forklift trucks have been developed and constructed on a platform that is compatible with all drive types. With this shared basis for design, Linde is entering a new era in which drive technology no longer dictates the performance and robustness of a truck. Other models developed on this platform include the E20 – E35 electric forklift trucks, which are designed especially for indoor use, as well as the H20 – H35 diesel and gas-powered forklifts.

The most powerful electric forklift truck in the world

The X20 – X35 electric forklift trucks from Linde are just as powerful and robust as internal combustion trucks, even in the most extreme conditions. The new series even makes light work of heavy loads, long transport routes and steep ramps. The key to this is the core element of the drive unit: the synchronous reluctance motors (SRM+) provide the electric forklifts with unique performance characteristics, which are reinforced even further by the use of permanent magnets. The use of these modern electric motors eliminates the vibrations, noise, and emissions typical of IC trucks, making the X models a more environmentally friendly, comfortable, and quiet alternative.

Even the bodywork and the chassis are built to withstand the most extreme conditions, ensuring the trucks can be used on uneven surfaces. This is made possible by the long wheelbase and the large tyres together with the vibration-free drive axle based on an elastomer ring bearing. This ensures the trucks are impermeable to dust and dirt. All power units are hermetically sealed and can be cleaned using high-pressure equipment.

Load balancing

In electrically powered fleets, Linde Load Balancing helps customers manage their local energy infrastructure. The aim is to avoid expensive power peaks (Peak Power Management) and statically as well as dynamically limit the available charging power. To achieve this, various charging strategies are developed and the customer selects the one that suits them.

Palpable performance

Operators of the X20 – X35 series experience a whole new level of performance as soon as they first put their foot on the pedal, with the sort of acceleration that would previously have only been possible in an IC truck. Yet, in spite of this, the electric forklift truck travels quietly and with zero emissions. The quiet dynamics with powerful performance, combined with numerous ergonomic improvements, make for a driving experience like no other.

Mechanic separation of the steering axle, drive unit and mast in the X20 – X35 electric forklift trucks from Linde Material Handling

Mechanical separation of the steering axle, drive unit and mast

The extensive decoupling of the operator’s workstation from the drive unit, steering axle and mast significantly reduces the level of shocks and vibrations that are transmitted to the operator when travelling on uneven surfaces, which minimises physical strain and ensures fatigue-free operation. An elastomer ring bearing also decouples the frame and chassis from the drive axle, which gives the operator optimum protection on uneven terrain.

Electronic suspension of the mast ends

To prevent shocks and vibrations from being transmitted to the operator, the mast ends are electronically suspended. This also reduces wear on the mast components.

Safety in every detail

The new X20 – X35 electric forklift trucks are among the safest trucks in their class. To achieve this, they feature numerous passive elements and active safety options. In terms of design, the low centre of gravity, together with the high steering axle and overhead tilt cylinders, provide good stability when cornering and ensure safe load handling at height. Linde Curve Assist, fitted as standard, reduces the speed according to the steering angle. Linde Load Assist, which also comes as standard, limits the lift and tilt functions when the fork carriage exceeds the maximum range during load handling. Thanks to the low, large, anti-slip entry step, there is no risk of injury when climbing in and out of the truck. The automatic parking brake protects the truck against accidental rolling.

A key safety feature is the excellent visibility of the load and the surroundings, which minimises accidents involving people and other trucks. The Linde lithium-ion systems also feature a multi-stage safety concept, which allows the forklift trucks to be used in challenging environments with high mechanical loads and extreme temperature fluctuations. Batteries and power modules are sealed against moisture in line with the IP69X standard. The durability of the trucks has also been confirmed in a series of specially designed crash tests.
