Heritage

On the 1st December 2003 Lansing Linde changed its name to Linde. With the acquisition of Lansing by Linde in 1989 it was always the intention to eventually adopt the Linde brand and name for the UK Company while respecting the impressive heritage of Lansing and the key role it played in pioneering the development of mechanised muscle and material handling technology in Europe. This is why the two names were integrated at that time to form the Lansing Linde organisation in order to have a phased introduction of the Linde name into the UK market. It was decided the time is now right to complete the transition to Linde in order to provide a sharper focus on the core values of the Linde group and its significant manufacturing investment in the UK.

Linde from 1943 to the present day

From inauspicious beginnings in small workshops in the London suburbs of Mortlake and Isleworth in 1943, Lansing Bagnall Ltd rapidly grew to be a leading manufacturer of materials handling equipment and pioneered the development of mechanised materials handling which was virtually unknown in Europe at that time. As early as 1946 Lansing Bagnall developed shunt wound drive technology with regenerative braking for an electric platform tractor model DE. The founders E.Kaye and J.R.Sharpe saw that the future of mechanical handling lay in unitised loads and the use of pallets and the first powered pallet truck to be designed and built in Britain was displayed at the very first Mechanical Handling Exhibition at Olympia in 1948.

In 1949 Lansing Bagnall Ltd moved to the current site in Basingstoke and there were many milestones of success with the rapid development of a range of electric counterbalance, pallet and reach trucks, tractors and very narrow aisle system trucks.

Queens awards for technical innovation and export achievements were won on several occasions and a factory was also built in Germany to produce a range of warehouse equipment and by this time the name of the company had changed to Lansing Ltd.

In 1989 Lansing became part of the German based, world leading Linde group and Lansing Ltd was renamed Lansing Linde Ltd. Linde embarked on a major ongoing investment programme at Basingstoke, the results of which can be seen today in the superb ultra modern manufacturing facilities and the innovative and efficient products on the production line. The highly experienced design team at Basingstoke continues to develop exciting new products aimed at reducing the costs of handling and optimising the efficiency of the supply chain process.

The Linde group continues to invest significantly in the UK as evidenced by the impressive new Linde heavy truck factory at Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales where the 5 to 8 t engine trucks, sideloaders and container handlers up to 52 tonne are produced.
